Eligibility of Voters |
A person is eligible to vote at an election if the person: (a) is a Canadian citizen; (b) has attained the age of 18 years; (c) has, for at least 12 consecutive months immediately preceding the day on which the person votes, been a resident of: (i) the electoral district, or (ii) an area that has, during the 12 months preceding the day on which he votes, become part of the electoral district as a result of a variance of the boundaries of the electoral district; and (d) is a resident of the electoral district on the day on which he or she votes.

The Town of Inuvik maintains the voters list but does not conduct door-to-door enumeration.
The voters list has been posted at the following locations:

You must meet the following criteria in order to vote: a) be a Canadian citizen; b) be 18 years of age or older on election day; and, c) have lived in Inuvik for at least 12 consecutive months immediately preceding election day.
If your address has changed since the last election (2021) or your name is not on the voters list, there are 3 ways to register to vote:

Proxy Voting |
If you are unable to get to the polling station to vote on election day, you may choose another eligible voter to vote on your behalf. You (the voter) must complete an Application to Authorize Proxy Voter. The person voting on your behalf (the proxy voter) must complete a Declaration Form. BOTH FORMS MUST BE SIGNED IN THE PRESENCE OF THE RETURNING OFFICER. Please ensure that you bring valid photo ID with you when returning these forms. The deadline to apply for proxy voting is 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 16, 2024.

Eligibility of Candidates |
A person is eligible to be a Candidate if they:
Reasons someone cannot be nominated or stand as a candidate: Professional Conflicts - Section 18(2)
Indebtedness - Section 20(1)
Criminal Convictions and Election Offences Any person who has been convicted of a major election offense under the Local Authorities Elections Act within the past 3 years;
1 A Justice of the Peace must obtain a leave of absence until the election results are declared. If elected, the position of Justice of the Peace is declared "vacant" by the Department of Justice.

2024 By-Election Nomination Package
Nomination papers may also be picked up at the Town Office, 2 Firth Street between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., (office closed 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. for lunch). Nomination papers must be returned personally prior to the deadline to: September 23, 2024 at 3 PM.
