As we enter the heart of autumn, it’s a perfect time to reflect on the ongoing growth and exciting developments happening across our town. I want to take a moment to share key updates on our projects and initiatives that aim to enhance the quality of life in our community.
The progress at the Inuvik Satellite Station continues to advance, positioning Inuvik as a significant hub for remote sensing technology. Our efforts are moving forward with the establishment of the new Remote Sensing Center, creating both job opportunities and global recognition for our region’s potential in this field. We’re on track with the expansion of the Inuvik Airport runway and the planning stages of a new, modern Air Terminal. These upgrades are designed to improve travel experience, enhance safety, and accommodate future growth.
The construction of our new Wellness Center is well underway, a facility designed to support the physical and mental well-being of our residents. In addition, the housing projects initiated by the Gwich’in Tribal Council and the Inuvialuit Regional Corporation are progressing. These developments, including apartment complexes and new homes, are helping to meet the growing needs of our community.
I’m also pleased to update you on our solar farm project, which is advancing steadily, marking a significant step toward sustainable energy for Inuvik. The new utilidor system upgrades will enhance our town’s infrastructure, ensuring residents receive reliable services for years to come. The construction of a net-zero duplex exemplifies our commitment to sustainable housing.
Breynat Road reconstruction is moving along, improving both access and safety for our town. In addition, unprecedented land sales this year are signaling Inuvik’s growth and appeal, paving the way for future residential and commercial developments. Work on the landfill fencing project is continuing.
These initiatives are vital in providing safe and supportive environments for those in need, as well as protecting our environment and ensuring the sustainability of our community resources.
As we head into the colder months, the spirit of community continues to shine in Inuvik. The progress we’ve made reflects our shared vision for a vibrant, sustainable, and prosperous future. I encourage all residents to stay informed and involved as we move forward together.
Thank you for your continued support and commitment to making Inuvik an incredible place to live.
Clarence Wood,
Mayor, Town of Inuvik
